ISLAMABAD (TDI Special): Few career ambassadors reach up to a level of diplomacy that is regarded as unmatched and peerless among the most of the his noble colleagues and fellows. Hardly few touch such a climax of profession that none can think of matching it. His Highness Mr Jian Zaidong is among few of the rare ones on the globe.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, 54, is an esteemed Chinese diplomat, currently deployed as Ambassador to Pakistan. He started his diplomatic career in 1992 and since then remained a pivotal figure in promoting global peace and enhancing China’s bilateral relations worldwide.
Ambassador Zaidong was born in February 1970 and ethnically he belongs to the respected and noble Han community. He is married and a father of one daughter.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong; The career
The respectable Ambassador started his journey in foreign services in 1992 by primarily serving in Vietnam, where he gained substantial experience in regional diplomacy.
He was then appointed as a deputy director of the Department of Asian Affairs in 2017. This appointment strengthened his deep insight into the geopolitics of Asia which added to his prowess as a diplomat in the nations of Asia.
The honorable Mr. Zaidong is then appointed as an ambassador to Laos on 5 July 2024. During his tenure, Mr. Jiang Zaidong has adeptly fostered and strengthened diplomatic relations between the two countries, ensuring smooth, productive cooperation and reinforcing strategic ties.
In one of his interviews, Mr. Zaidong said that: “China and Laos are inseparable”. One of the key things to be noticed is that as a diplomat ambassador, Jiang Zaidong had always played a pivotal role in reinforcing and developing the Belt and Road Initiative project.
During his service in Laos, one of the landmark projects of BRI came into being which is the establishment of “The China-Laos Railway”.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong’s negotiation style is characterized by a soft, tactful approach, exemplifying a key diplomatic quality that facilitates constructive dialogue and fosters mutual respect.

Right, after completing his service in Laos, Mr. Zaidong then held office as ambassador in Pakistan on 5 September 2023.
He came to Pakistan at the time when the crucial CPEC Phase II just commissioned, many commentators believed that the expertise of Ambassador Jiang Zaidong’s expertise in trade matters and his excellence in understanding the matters regarding BRI made him the perfect choice.
Mr. Zaidong believes in the growing and rock-solid relationship between China and Pakistan. He expressed this thought in one of the official messages which said, “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a major and pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative, to which the leaders of our two countries have attached great importance and rendered active promotion”.
“It has also won the across-board support from our two peoples as it aims to provide new opportunities to the citizens as well as bring new impetus and vision to China-Pakistan friendship,” he kept on adding.

At another event hosted by General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, Pakistan on 18 July 2024, to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China, Ambassador Zaidong remarked, “China is willing to continuously deepen military cooperation with Pakistan and jointly build a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future”.
This exhibited the great diplomatic fiat carried out by Ambassador Jiang Zaidong to strengthen the Sino-Pak relationship.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong represents China in Pakistan during a period marked by challenges such as rising extremism, political instability, and insurgency.
Yet, his diplomatic skills are likely to strengthen Sino-Pak relations, fostering resilience and reinforcing the long-standing strategic ties between the two nations.
The diplomatic adventure of Mr. Jiang Zaidong is marked by great achievements and precautionary steps to increase the influence of China on other states.
