Notably, Pakistan became one of the first countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China. Hence, Pakistan considers China a close ally and neighbor, whereas Beijing considers Pakistan its “Iron Brother.”
The diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and China is characterized by mutual trust, respect, and goodwill. There is a regular exchange of high-level visits between the two countries. As a result, Pakistan-China cooperative relationship has grown enormously over the last few decades.
For many years, China has provided significant military, technological, and financial support to Pakistan.
When it comes to economic relations, China is one of the largest trading partners of Pakistan. It has invested heavily in Pakistan, notably in the construction and power sector. The trade volume between the two countries reached US$ 18 billion in 2018.
Lastly, CPEC is an important chapter in relations with China. The strategic ties have been pushed to a greater position with the formal inauguration of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
CPEC is a major project of the President of China Xi Jinping’s “One Road, One Belt” plan. It aims to improve communication and connectivity between Pakistan and China. CPEC is working on several projects to improve infrastructure and generate energy in Pakistan.
