China’s Policy Towards South Korea Consistent: Lin

Beijing (TDI): Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday that China has taken note of the most recent political developments in South Korea.

They are South Korea’s internal affairs, and we will not comment on it, he said in response to the South Korean National Assembly passing the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol on Saturday.

He said that China and South Korea are important neighbors and cooperation partners. The sound and steady growth of bilateral ties is in the interest of both nations.

Lin stated at a routine media conference that China’s policy towards South Korea has remained consistent and Beijing upheld its continuity.

The spokesperson expressed hope that South Korea will make continued positive efforts with China to actively deepen the friendly cooperation and strategic cooperative partnership.

A stable and calm Korean Peninsula is in the interest of all sides and needs the concentrated and robust effort of all parties, he added.

Responding to a query on whether the appointment of a new Chinese ambassador to South Korea be postponed due to the latest developments, Lin said that he has no information to share, and suggested following the Foreign Ministry’s website for any update.
