Beijing, (TDI): The Chinese Foreign Ministry has warned that “Taiwan independence” is a dead end and that the United States will face consequences if it continues to support the island by military means.
The statement came following the White House’s announcement of a $567 million defense support package for Taiwan.
The package, approved by US President Joe Biden, marks the latest move by Washington to bolster Taipei’s defenses amidst escalating tensions with Beijing.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said on Monday that the US move constitutes a serious violation of the One China principle and the provisions of the three China-US Joint Communiques.
Lin accused the US of backing Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its leader Lai Ching-te in their “stubborn pursuit” of independence and provocative actions against Beijing’s stated policy.

He reiterated that the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits arises from the secessionist activities of pro-independence forces on the island and the external support they receive from the US.
“The US’ insistence on supporting ‘Taiwan independence’ by force will inevitably harm itself and it will suffer the consequences of its actions,” Lin said.
Lin Urges US to Cease Military Assistance
He urged Washington to cease all forms of military assistance to Taiwan and abide by the One China principle.
“No matter how many weapons the US provides to Taiwan, it will not waver our determination to oppose ‘Taiwan independence’ and safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Lin added.
