China Warns of AI Security Risks

-

Beijing (TDI): China’s Ministry of State Security on Tuesday issued a stark warning about the potential risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI) to national security, as the technology becomes increasingly integrated into everyday life at an unprecedented speed.

In a detailed article, the ministry highlighted that AI tools, used for generating conversations, texts, and other tasks, can collect and store personal information, posing a threat to data security.

Sensitive information related to individuals involved in confidential matters could be inferred and exploited by foreign intelligence agencies, potentially leading to significant national security hazards.

The ministry also pointed out the risk of AI-generated content being used to spread misinformation.

Criminals could exploit AI technology to fabricate and disseminate false texts, images, audio, and video content, misleading the public and damaging China’s state security and international reputation.

In addition, the ministry noted that AI-powered cyberattacks pose a serious risk to smart devices.

Hackers could target smart home systems and connected vehicles, collecting sensitive data through eavesdropping and surveillance, threatening personal privacy, property, and national security.

Phishing attacks have also become more sophisticated with the use of AI, it warned.

Critical industries in China are increasingly vulnerable to phishing attempts orchestrated by foreign intelligence agencies, which use advanced AI techniques to deceive core enterprises and institutions.

Another concern raised by the ministry is the influence of AI recommendation systems, which can trap users in “filter bubbles” and “echo chambers.”

These personalized recommendations, based on user behavior analysis, could be exploited by foreign hostile forces to mislead public opinion and conduct ideological infiltration.
