China urges US to One-China policy

Beijing, 15 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian urges the United States to stay committed to the One-China policy.

Zhao Lijian in the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s regular press conference on 15 November 2021, stated that China opposes the wrong actions of the U.S. He said that the U.S. should stay committed to its One-China policy. He responded to the tweet of Antony Blinken in which the U.S. State Secretary emphasized the U.S. interest in the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated that the U.S. statements over Taiwan have changed in the last 40 years. The U.S. is running from its commitment to the One-China policy. He urged the United States to abide by the three China-US joint communiques. The three China-US joint communiques played an important role in establishing bilateral relations between the two states. Therefore, the U.S. should stay committed to it, he added.

Zhao Lijian emphasized that the separation forces in Taiwan are the biggest threat to the peace and stability of the Taiwan Straits. Thus, the US should abandon its military support for Taiwan. He said that all the acts supporting Taiwan’s Independence will be considered as interference in Chinese affairs.

One-China policy is a Universal consensus

He said that the One-China policy is the universal consensus. Therefore the world especially the United States should play a responsible role in maintaining the peace and stability of the region.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stressed that the Taiwan issue is a very sensitive issue in Sino-US relations. Therefore, the U.S. should not act in a way that disturbs the peace and stability of the region. The United States should stay committed to its One-China policy, he added.
