Beijing (TDI): China’s top diplomat Wang Yi has urged an immediate, complete, and permanent cease-fire in Gaza during phone conversations with the foreign ministers of Israel and Iran on Monday.
Wang expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Speaking with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, Wang emphasized that escalating violence in the region serves no one’s interests and called for the safe and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
He stressed that countering violence with violence cannot solve the core issues and urged a return to the “two-state solution” as the only path towards lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
In his conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Wang expressed China’s apprehension about the potential for regional tensions to further escalate and called for restraint from all parties involved.
He also praised Iran’s recent efforts at regional diplomacy, particularly its reconciliation with Saudi Arabia, which China has supported.
