China Urges Citizens to Leave Sudan As Security Situation Worsens

Khartoum (TDI): China’s embassy in Sudan on Thursday urged Chinese nationals in the country to leave as soon as possible, citing worsening security situation and growing security risks.

The embassy warned of dropping supplies of water, electricity and fuel, and advised Chinese nationals to evacuate via ships to Saudi Arabia or available international flights, or to travel by land to Egypt.

On Thursday, paramilitary drones hit army-occupied sites of eastern and southern Sudan for a fifth straight day, leading to an exodus of civilians from Port Sudan, the center of the army-backed government.

Attacks targeted Sudan’s major naval base close to Port Sudan, and fuel depots in Kosti, a southern city of Sudan, AFP reported.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out another drone attack on the Flamingo Naval Base north of Port Sudan.

Port Sudan had been considered as a safe place, hosting UN offices and hundreds of thousands of displaced Sudanese, until drone attacks started on Sunday, which are blamed on the RSF.

The port city is the main entry point for humanitarian assistance into the country, and UN chief Antonio Guterres cautioned the strikes threaten to increase humanitarian needs and further complicate assistance operations in Sudan, his spokesman Stephane Dujarric stated.
