China Targets Illegal News Services

Beijing (TDI): China’s top cyberspace authority has started a three-month campaign to crack down on illegal online news services, including the dissemination of false information and unlicensed news activities.

The initiative, unveiled by the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, aims to enhance the regulation of internet news services.

Other objectives of the drive are to further strengthen the influence of mainstream media, and promote a cleaner online environment.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the campaign will address the fabrication and spread of false news, including the use of exaggerated headlines that misrepresent the content.

Under the campaign, authorities will combat the misuse of public opinion supervision, which has been exploited to interfere with news presentation and search results.

The initiative will crack down on the illegal impersonation of news websites, newspapers, and broadcasting institutions that create unauthorized sites or publish information.

The campaign will target unauthorized collection, publication, and reposting of news without proper licensing.
