Beijing (TDI): China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a senior Iranian national security official on Wednesday that China appreciated Tehran making diplomatic efforts regarding its nuclear program, ahead of a new round of US-Iran negotiations on Saturday.
Beijing values Tehran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons and appreciates its diplomatic efforts, Wang told Ali Shamkhani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.
Wang said that China is pleased to see ongoing talks between Tehran and other parties and supports Iran’s necessary collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

US President Donald Trump has threatened military action, if Tehran does not strike an agreement to rein in its nuclear program, with negotiators from the US and Iran, are scheduled to meet again in Rome on Saturday.

The US on Wednesday imposed sanctions on entities it accused of being involved in the illicit trade of Iranian petroleum and petrochemicals in a bid to increase pressure on Tehran ahead of the negotiations.
