Beijing, 2 September 2024 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa have announced the elevation of their bilateral relationship to an all-round strategic cooperative partnership for the new era.
The announcement was made during Ramaphosa’s state visit to Beijing, coinciding with the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
During their talks, Xi emphasized the importance of strengthening solidarity and cooperation between China and South Africa, aligning with the aspirations of their peoples and the broader growth of the Global South.

He called for a forward-looking approach based on high-level strategic trust and highlighted areas for collaboration including the Belt and Road Initiative, digital economy, artificial intelligence, new energy, and human resources development.
Xi also reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding cooperation with African nations, aiming to foster new momentum for mutual development and enhance China-Africa relations.
He underscored the need for Global South countries to maintain independence, bolster unity, and jointly uphold international fairness amid a complex global landscape.
