China-Somalia relations strengthen through mutual cooperation

Mogadishu, 5 May 2023(TDI): On 3rd March, the Commissioner of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, met with the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao, at the Chinese Embassy in Mogadishu to strengthen mutual cooperation.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues related to relief and resilience in the face of natural disasters.

During the meeting, Commissioner Abdulle expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Shengchao for China’s support of the Somali people during the recent drought. He also thanked the Chinese government for their continued commitment to assisting Somalia.

The Commissioner of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, discussed issues related to relief and resilience in the face of natural disasters with Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao.

In response, Ambassador Shengchao pledged that China will always stand by the Somali people and continue to provide support in times of need.

The meeting was productive and highlighted the strong relationship between Somalia and China.

Two months ago, Fei Shengchao also met with Somali Defence Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur in Mogadishu to talk about improving friendship and working together for peace and security.

China-Somalia relations

In recent years, China has played a significant role in promoting peace and stability in Somalia. China has been providing military aid and training to Somali troops to fight against terrorism and piracy in the country.

China has also supported the establishment of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), which has helped to stabilize the country.

It has been involved in several development projects in Somalia, including the construction of roads, bridges, and ports. These projects have helped to improve the country’s infrastructure and boost its economy.

Furthermore, China has also been actively involved in humanitarian aid to Somalia, especially during times of natural disasters and humanitarian crises. China has provided financial and material support to Somalia to help alleviate poverty, hunger, and disease.
