Kunming, 19 August 2023 (TDI): China and Pakistan inked an MoU to launch the China-South Asia Tech Transfer Centre in Pakistan, aiming to boost tech collaboration and innovation. This was spotlighted at the 3rd China-Pakistan tech workshop during the China-South Asia Expo in Kunming.

This initiative is geared towards enhancing technology transfer, fostering collaboration among businesses, academic institutions, and research entities, and advancing science, technology, and innovation (STI) for sustainable growth under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Moin ul Haque, the Pakistani Ambassador to China, emphasized the nations’ shared vision of STI collaboration across diverse sectors, including IT, emerging technologies, renewable energy, the digital economy, and more.

This strategic decision aligns with the integration of STI into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.

Additionally, Pakistan’s recent establishment of the Special Technology Zones Authority underscores its commitment to nurturing an innovative ecosystem.

Furthermore, the Ambassador expressed optimism about the B2B matchmaking discussions, hoping they would pave the way for a clear roadmap for technology transfer in priority areas.

Moreover, he shared insights from his visits to over 40 cities and interactions with over 100 companies, highlighting the global emphasis on research and development.

China’s global leadership in pioneering technologies, such as high-speed rail networks, electric vehicles, AI, 5G, solar tech, and e-commerce, stands as a testament to its unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens, he noted.

Khan Muhammad Wazir, the Science and Technology Counsellor at the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing, reiterated that the MoU would bridge the private sectors, government R&D centres, and universities of both nations, fostering technology transfers and STI cooperation.

All these discussions and plans were brought to the forefront during the 3rd China-Pakistan technology transfer matchmaking workshop. This significant event was a part of the China-South Asia Expo held in Kunming, China.
