China offers more scholarships to students of Balochistan

Islamabad, 1 October 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of China to Pakistan Nong Rong called on the Chairman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani. China has intended to offer more scholarships to students of Balochistan, Pakistan.

The meeting was held at the Embassy of China in Islamabad on 30 September. The  Ambassador hoped that more students will get benefit from the cooperation of China and Pakistan and CPEC.

Scholarships by China

According to HEC, 193 Pakistani students have received scholarships under the Scholarship Programme of China so far. It includes 40 students in 2019, 58 students in 2020, 59 students in 2021, and 36 students this year.

Annually, 274 Chinese institutions provide Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) to overseas students. This year at least 36 Pakistani students are all set to leave for China to avail Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) program 2022.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong also visited Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Thursday. Nong Rong met with Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.

Moreover, he attended the pre-departure ceremony to award scholarships to Pakistani students. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed welcomed Nong Rong in this send-off ceremony.

Furthermore, Executive Director of HEC Dr. Shaista Sohail, Advisor Global Engagement of HEC Awais Ahmed, Director General (Scholarships) Aayesha Ikram, and other senior officials of the Higher Education Commission were present at this ceremony.

Chairman HEC Mukhtar Ahmed reported to Ambassador Nong Rong about Chinese higher education institutions’ rich record of scholarly partnership.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed emphasized that Pakistan and China have formed university groups to collaborate on several areas.

He advocated developing a unified online page with a central focus on all Chinese scholarship options available to Pakistani students.

Pakistan and China Diplomatic Relations

Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951.

The bilateral relationship between the two neighboring countries is characterized by feelings of mutual trust, respect, and goodwill toward each other. People-to-people contacts are an important aspect of the bilateral relationship.
