Beijing, 13 August 2022 (TDI): The 8th International Army Games (IAG-2022) have started. The event will take place from 13-27 August. The IAG 2022 sets a total of 36 field combat training competitions.

It will be co-hosted by 12 countries including China, Russia, and Iran, attracting more than 270 military teams from 37 countries

IAG 2022 will be held at the military training grounds in twelve countries. These include Russia, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan.

Events to be hosted by China

The competitions hosted by China will be held in two locations in China. The PLA Army (PLAA) is to host and participate in the “Suvorov Onslaught”. It is a contest among infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) crews.

The second one is the “Safe Route” competition. It is a minesweeping contest among engineering troops, in Korla, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The PLA Navy (PLAN) will also host and participate in the “Sea Cup” contest. It is a contest among naval surface ships, in Qingdao, a port city in east China’s Shandong Province.

Teams from Russia, Belarus, Iran, and Venezuela will participate in these contests in China.

The Chinese military has also dispatched nine teams to Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Uzbekistan. The teams will participate in nine contests hosted by the five countries respectively.

Besides that, the Chinese military will send a delegation to observe the “Sniper Frontier” competition to be held in Venezuela.

International Army Games

In 2013, Russia hosted international competitions for tank crews called Tank Biathlon and for air pilots Aviadarts. While in 2015, the Russian Defense Ministry decided to arrange an Army Olympics. The event took place at eleven military training grounds in Russia, with 56 teams from 17 countries taking part.

Since then, the International Army Games have been held annually. Not only does Russia host the events but other countries host some competitions as well.

In addition to that, Russian contestants have excelled on all occasions. China has won second place five times, while, Belarus and Kazakhstan, one time each.
