Phnom Penh, 13 September 2021 (TDI): On Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi promised $270 million in financial assistance and three million more COVID-19 vaccine doses to Cambodia, one of Beijing’s closest Southeast Asian allies. China is Cambodia’s largest foreign investor and a relatively close political ally.
Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn added that China’s assistance is inextricably linked to Cambodia’s growth and development. According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang’s meetings on Sunday and Monday have also covered economic and security issues.
Sokhonn lauded China for successfully retaining COVID19, as well as for successfully restoring and developing her economy in the first quarter, which grew by 18.3 percent. Meanwhile, the minister expressed gratitude to China for its aid in tackling COVID19 and assisting the kingdom’s socio-economic recovery.
