China denounces EU’s statement on South China Sea

Beijing, 22 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese mission to the European Union (EU) has denounced the EU’s statement over the South China Sea.

The spokesperson of the Chinese mission to the EU stated that two supply boats of the Philippines passed into Chinese waters. Therefore, the coast guard of China performed their duty and stopped those boats. He stated that Chinese sovereignty and its interests are established in the South China Sea in accordance with the International Law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The EU, in its statement, criticized the move of China and called that such actions will harm the peace of the region. EU stated that it rejects such unilateral relations which endangers the peace of the region.

Statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on the issue

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian on the issue cleared that the boats were in the Chinese waters and the Chinese guards performed their duties in accordance with International Law. China will not compromise on its territorial sovereignty, he added.

The spokesperson of the Chinese mission to the EU also stressed that China does not accept the null and void attribution on the South China Sea which undermines national sovereignty.

The Chinese spokesperson stated that China is jointly working with ASEAN to create a peaceful environment in the region. The two sides have cooperated to create a stable situation in the South China Sea. China is committed to creating a peaceful environment in the region, he added.

He pointed out that the involvement and irresponsible statement by the extra-territorial states will harm the peace and stability of the region. Therefore, the European Union should not interfere in the affairs of the other states. The EU’s statement clearly impacts negatively regional peace. China urged the EU to stay silent on extraterritorial issues and to respect the efforts of the regional states for maintaining peace and stability of the region.
