Lithuanian official’s visit to Taiwan
Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Agne Vaiciukeviciute traveled to Taiwan on August 7 with a delegation for a five-day visit.
Eleven members from the government and the electric bus business made up the Lithuanian delegation.
Additionally, the five-day tour significantly strengthened bilateral discussions and partnerships in the areas of 5G communications, electric buses, and smart and green transportation.
Taiwan and Lithuania deeply felt the importance of working together to protect shared values. Both sides also focused on collaboration in the transportation sector.
The regular formal exchanges between the Taiwan and Lithuanian administrations since 2020 are a reflection of the two sides’ growing cooperation.
China’s response to Lithuanian official’s visit
Chinese Spokesperson Wang Wenbin recalled the official announcement made on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Lithuania.
According to the statement, the Republic of Lithuania recognized the government of the People’s Republic of China as the only government of China and Taiwan.
Taiwan is an integral part of China. The Republic of Lithuania’s government agreed not to establish diplomatic ties with Taiwan or do official business with it.
Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi further said that China firmly denounces the intentional violation of its sovereignty. China severely condemns unlawful intervention in its internal affairs by the anti-China forces of Lithuania.
The one-China Principle, according to Wang, is a basic principle of international relations. The principle serves as China’s political basis for establishing bilateral ties with other nations, including Lithuania.
Wang further stated, “We urge the relevant people on the Lithuanian side not to continue serving as pawns of ‘Taiwan independence’ and anti-China forces, and stop moving further down the wrong path.”
Moreover, experts have analyzed that the diplomatic ties between the two countries already deteriorated. China will certainly respond to Lithuania’s provocations through trade and business.
