United Nations (TDI): Amid escalating violence in the Middle East, China has called for urgent de-escalation of the deteriorating situation along the Lebanese-Israeli border, following Israel’s expanded ground operations in southern Lebanon and Iran’s retaliatory ballistic missile strikes targeting Israel.
Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, urged for restraint from all sides, warning that the region is “hanging by a thread.”
Addressing an emergency session of the UN Security Council, he said, “Any further provocations could easily lead to the situation spiralling out of control.”
His remarks come as both Lebanon and Gaza continue to experience intense bombardment, resulting in significant civilian casualties and displacement.

Beijing expressed grave concerns over recent developments, highlighting that Israel’s incursions into Lebanon breach the country’s sovereignty and are a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The diplomat reaffirmed China’s stance against any actions that undermine international principles or target civilians, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to hostilities along the Lebanese-Israeli frontier.
Cycles of Violent Conflict in Middle East
“Cycles of violent conflict have repeatedly erupted in the Middle East since last October. Israel’s insistence on military actions, despite global calls for restraint, has only prolonged and escalated the conflict. A full-scale war could break out at any moment,” Fu stated.
Describing Gaza as “a hell on Earth,” Fu highlighted the extensive destruction of civilian infrastructure, thousands of casualties, and the displacement of over a million people in Lebanon alone.

He underscored the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and ensuring the protection of civilians amid the ongoing crisis.
Fu further emphasized the neutrality of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, urging all parties to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers. “UN assets and personnel should not be targeted under any circumstances,” he stressed.
