China Boosts Poverty Reduction Cooperation with SCO

Beijing (TDI): Since assuming the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, China has hosted a series of events under the banner of the SCO Year of Sustainable Development, aiming to enhance cooperation with member nations in poverty reduction and promote sustainable socioeconomic development across the region, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks during a regular press briefing while responding to a question about the recently held 2025 SCO Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development.

Mao said that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the forum, saying that China, as the incumbent SCO president, is open to strengthen policy communication with all countries, share poverty reduction experience, enhance practical collaboration, and support more states in exploring development paths suited to their own conditions.

SCO members warmly received the letter, who viewed it as a reflection of the high significance President Xi places on poverty reduction and sustainable growth, as well as his optimism for enhanced exchanges and mutual learning among the block and build a community with a common future, Mao added.
