Beijing (TDI): China will continue to empower the world economy with high-quality development and high-level opening-up, providing a new key impetus for international economic recovery and development, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
FM spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks during a regular media conference when asked about great global attention paid to China’s GDP growth target of around 5% and further opening-up tasks outlined in this year’s Government Work Report, and how China will make new contributions to world development against the backdrop of a sluggish international economy.
“Opening-up is a source of vitality for the Chinese economy and also Beijing’s firm commitment to the world,” Mao said.
“Regardless of changes in the external environment, China should remain steadfast in its commitment to opening-up. It should steadily expand institutional opening up and take the initiative to open wider and advance unilateral opening up in a well-ordered way, so as to promote reform and growth through greater openness,” the report noted.

Mao said that Beijing will step up policy efforts to stabilize foreign trade, promote the innovative development of service trade, and foster new development points such as green trade and digital trade.
China will continue to host high-quality global exhibitions, including the China International Import Expo, the Canton Fair, the China International Digital Trade Expo, the China International Fair for Trade in Services, and the Consumer Goods Expo, she added.
China will also promote foreign investment by gradually opening up sectors such as internet and culture, and expanding pilot programs in telecommunications, healthcare, and education sectors, according to Mao.
