Beijing, 2 March 2023 (TDI): China built the world’s largest 5G network, consisting of over 2.31 million 5G base stations that cover all prefecture-level cities, counties, and urban areas throughout the country.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China made this announcement on Wednesday.
Tian Yulong, the Chief Engineer and Spokesperson for MIIT, stated, “the country is continuing to promote 5G applications across various industries and enhance the integrated development of 5G technologies and the industrial internet.”
Certainly, the 5G industrial Internet sector is a crucial driving force that empowers digitalization and intelligent transformation.
Update on 6G Development of China
Furthermore, MIIT’s Chief Engineer provided an update on China’s 6G development and noted, “China established the IMT-2030 (6G) promotion group for the sector’s industrial production, education, research, and application.”
The promotion group consists of both domestic and international companies, universities, and research institutes.
It was launched in June 2019 under the guidance of MIIT to promote 6G research and development as well as international cooperation. China has also released several white papers on the launch of technological tests on 6G.

In the past decade, China has achieved significant progress in its industrial sector, consolidating its position as a significant manufacturing power and a country with an extensive cyber presence, according to Jin Zhuanglong, Minister of MIIT.
Thus, the industrial system of China has become more complete, with the country now having 41 major industrial categories, grouping 207 at the medium level and 666 at the low level.
Similarly, the country’s industrial structure has continued to improve, with the share of high-tech manufacturing & equipment manufacturing accounting for the value added of the entire industrial sector increasing to 15.5 % & 31.8 %, respectively, in the previous year.
In addition, China has also established 24 national-level manufacturing innovation centers, launched many manned space missions, developed the home-grown jetliner C919, and has a significant number of 5G-related patents.
