China appreciates UNSC Resolution for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan

New York, 23 December 2021 (TDI): Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Zhang Jun stated that China welcomes the United Nations Security Council Resolution for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.

Zhang Jun stated that China welcomes the unanimous adoption of the UNSC resolution 2615 for providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable Afghans. UNSC adopted the US-proposed resolution for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan that does not violate the sanctions on the Taliban.

The resolution was passed on Wednesday, 22 December 2021 in the UNSC. The resolution stated that “payment of funds, other financial assets or economic resources, and the provision of goods and services necessary to ensure the timely delivery of such assistance or to support such activities are permitted”.

Chinese Ambassador to the UN emphasized the UNSC resolution for humanitarian assistance supports the Chinese position on the humanitarian crisis of Afghanistan. He highlighted that it puts the international community on the right track.

Zhang stressed that the international community should make joint efforts to help the Afghans in the dire humanitarian crisis. He stated that major donors in the world should step up in providing assistance to Afghanistan. He urged that the world should unfreeze the assets of Afghanistan.

Chinese ambassador highlighted that China has made unremitting efforts in the proposed resolution. He urged the whole to contribute to the humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan as it does not violate the sanctions under the UNSC resolution. He stated that with the adoption of the resolution, Afghanistan is now cleared for humanitarian aid which will help the people of Afghanistan.
