New York, 27 June 2024 (TDI): China has appreciated the establishment of a Special Protection Unit (SPU) in Islamabad to protect foreigners, particularly Chinese nationals.
The appreciation was expressed during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Chinese counterpart, Qi Yanjun, in New York.
During the meeting, the training of law enforcement agencies and the use of modern equipment and technology were discussed.
The Chinese Interior Minister also expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved in the Dasu incident probe and lauded the professionalism and expertise of the Pakistani law enforcement agencies in investigating the incident.
The meeting agreed that the advisory group of the Chinese Interior Ministry will visit Pakistan soon to provide the local administration with all possible support and assistance for training and capacity building of security institutions.
The Chinese Interior Minister invited Mohsin Naqvi to participate in the Global Security Forum, which is scheduled to be held in September in China. He accepted.

Earlier this month, Naqvi met with Jiang Zaidong, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, to discuss ensuring the safety and security of Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
“The protection of our Chinese brethren, who contribute significantly to Pakistan’s development, is a paramount concern for the government. The enduring friendship between Pakistan and China is steadfast, and we will thwart any attempts to undermine it,” Naqvi emphasized.

Highlighting the importance of a robust security framework for foreign nationals, the interior minister underscored the zero-tolerance policy towards any lapses in security.
An advisory delegation from China’s Ministry of Interior is also expected to visit Pakistan in the near future.
