Beijing (TDI): China has expressed its gratitude for Italy’s role in safeguarding cultural heritage following the return of 56 Chinese artifacts that had been lost overseas for years.
A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, praised Italy’s sense of responsibility in the repatriation of these relics and its ongoing efforts to protect cultural treasures.
The returned artifacts were recently showcased by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italian President Sergio Mattarella, highlighting the importance of the cultural exchange between the two nations.
This marks the second such event since 2019, further solidifying the partnership between China and Italy in protecting cultural heritage.

The repatriation of the 56 relics was made possible through cooperation under a bilateral agreement designed to prevent the illegal trade of cultural objects.
Italy, after reviewing the legal aspects and identification provided by China, decided to return the artifacts.

Discussions are now underway regarding the protection, restoration, and display of the returned items.
