Beijing/Washington, 31 August 2021 (TDI): The Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, talked about Afghanistan’s fast-evolving situation and relations between Washington and Beijing, on Sunday. During the phone discussion, Wang suggested a method of negotiation with the Taliban to settle the matter peacefully.
Wang noted the need for cooperation between the US and the International community for economic, social, and political re-modeling. He also said that the total withdrawal of foreign troops from the territory of Afghanistan has given an opportunity of re-emergence to terrorist organizations. In this regard, he urged the US to cooperate.
Blinken showed his concerns about the Afghan humanitarian crisis, the safety of foreigners, and global terrorism. He also showed respect to China’s concern related to development in Afghanistan.
Other than the Afghanistan issue, the two sides also discussed the issue of COVID-19 origin tracing and bilateral relations.
