Tianjin, 18 August 2022 (TDI): Director of Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Yang Jiechi co-chaired the 9th China-Japan High-Level Political Dialogues. He was accompanied by the Secretary General of Japan’s National Security Secretariat, Takeo Akiba.

The two sides exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. They also agreed that the dialogue was candid, in-depth, and constructive, and some useful consensus was reached.

Remarks by Director of Chinese Party Foreign Affairs Commission

Chinese Director mentioned that China and Japan share a 2000 years old history of exchanges. Moreover, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two sides.

He also stated that long diplomatic ties taught both sides that peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperation are the only right choice for the China-Japan relationship.

He further said that the two countries should take the key consensus of their leaders as the political guidance and uphold a strong sense of responsibility. Moreover, both states must eliminate internal and external interference, and work together to build a strong China-Japan relationship.

The Director of the Chinese Communist Party also mentioned that the regional and global significance of China-Japan relations has become more prominent. The Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative were proposed in response to common aspirations for peace and development.

Remarks on Taiwan Question

The Chinese Director stated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Taiwan Question bears on the political foundation of China-Japan relations and the basic trust and good faith between the two countries.

He also said that Japan should focus on the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and their peoples and shape up the right perception of China. He added that Jpan must work with China to enhance political trust and promote bilateral ties.
