Almaty (TDI): Kazakhstan’s national railways company, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), has announced that it transported 6.6 million tons of grain and 2.7 million tons of flour during the period from January to September 2024.

Of this, a substantial portion — 5 million tons of grain and 2.1 million tons of flour — was exported, according to KTZ Managing Director Bauyrzhan Urynbasarov.

In a government meeting, Urynbasarov revealed that the Central Asian nation’s grain exports were primarily directed to neighbouring countries in the region, with 2.9 million tons sent to Central Asia, 1.3 million tons to China, and 127,000 tons to Afghanistan.

Kazakhstan also resumed grain supplies to Iran, exporting 211,000 tons, while 423,000 tons were shipped to Italy, Turkiye, and Russia.

The export of flour saw significant volumes heading to Central Asia, with 495,000 tons sent to the region.
