Chicago, 21 December 2021 (TDI): On Friday, the Pakistani Consul general in Chicago Tariq Karim met with the delegates of the Sikh Religious Society in Chicago.

The meeting involved 3 delegates from the Sikh Religious Society. Tariq Karim briefed them about the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan’s initiative of taking necessary steps to protect and empower the minorities living in Pakistan.

Tariq Karim talked about the government of Pakistan’s decision to open up the Kartarpur Peace Corridor for the Sikh Community to visit their holy place there. The government of Pakistan is trying to promote religious tourism and also trying to put people’s sentiments above everything else.

The Kartarpur Corridor allows the Sikh to enter Pakistan without any visa and visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur. This Gurdwara holds great significance for the Sikh community all around the world.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib is known as the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev the founder of the religion ‘Sikhism’. Therefore, opening up this holy place holds great importance for the Indians and Sikhs.

This Gurdwara is located in the Narowal District of Punjab (a province in Pakistan). The Kartarpur Corridor is a border crossing that is visa-free and allows the devotees to travel from India to Pakistan, to visit the Gurdwara. This Gurdwara is almost 4.7 Kilometers from the Pakistan India border.

To register for the visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, people have to go online and register themselves there, fill in the requirements, upload some supporting documents and make sure that they register a month before their actual visit.

The government of Pakistan took a massive step to allow people to enter Pakistan through a corridor to visit their religious holy places. Although taking such a step endangers the national security of Pakistan but the government cared for the religious sentiments of a religious community. Such efforts play an important role in bringing change to the world.
