Canton Fair 2024 commenced, connecting global markets

Guangzhou, 17 March 2024 (TDI): The 135th session of the China Import and Export Fair, commonly referred to as the Canton Fair, started on Monday in Guangzhou. The year marks 28,600 companies participating in the export section whereas 680 companies in the import section.

According to the statistics, a total 144,000 overseas purchasers from about 215 different countries and regions have completed their Pre-registrations till last Saturday.

The data showed an increase in participation of 21.4% from the US, 13% from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries, 24.7% from the Middle Eastern countries, 45.9% from Belt and Road Initiative participating nations and 15.5% from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership member countries.

The onsite exhibition for the Canton Fair phase 1 commenced on April 15th which will be followed by two more phases. The first phase will include, consumer electronics and information products, household electrical appliances, lighting equipment, general machinery and Mechanical Basic Parts.

It will also feature power machinery and electric power, processing machinery equipment, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, electronic and electrical products, hardware, and tools.

The export exhibition has placed a greater focus on new quality productive forces. Over 5,500 national-level high-tech enterprises, manufacturing champions, and specialised “little giants” will be featured at the event, representing a 20 percent surge from the previous edition.

Meanwhile, 288 leading enterprises as well as industrial and commercial institutions confirmed that they organised delegations to attend the event, marking an increase of 21.5 percent from the previous session.

Furthermore, the fair has introduced new trade formats, by setting up a cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot area and overseas warehouse display area for the first time, covering an area of 3,000 square metres.

The biannual event, held every spring and autumn, is the country’s largest comprehensive trade show and one of the grandest events on the global trade calendar.

Since the start of the fair in 1957, it has attracted over 9.3 million overseas visitors and established partnerships with 195 global partners highlighting the event’s global significance, as well as the vitality of the country’s foreign trade.
