Canadian FM talks to Turkish Counterpart

-

Montréal, 31 August 2021 (TDI): The Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau and the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a productive talk concerning the extraordinary situation in Afghanistan.

Marc Garneau expressed his gratitude for Turkey’s critical participation in the Kabul airport operation. The two discussed how to overcome the challenges in order to reopen the airport as soon as security is restored.

After the withdrawal of US forces, the security of Kabul Airport quickly vanished. At present, the Airport lacks air traffic services and a functional civil aviation authority. Taliban are in talks with the Turkish and Qatari Governments to decide on the logistics, administration, and security of the Airport in order to reopen it.
