London, 7 March 2022 (TDI): UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson did a joint press conference with his Canadian and Netherlands counterparts in London. At the conference, Boris Johnson welcomed Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and Dutch Prime Minister Rutte to London.

He said that in their meeting, the three reiterated their support for Ukraine. Today marks the twelfth day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He added that in these twelfth days, the world has united against the brutal Russian invasion and showed solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

He added that last week 141 countries, about three-quarters of the total UN membership, voted in favor of condemning Putin’s war. Thirty-nine countries voted in favor of referring the Russian leader’s actions to the International Criminal Court. The U.K., Canada, and the Netherlands were also part of that 39 countries.

Support for Ukraine

Boris Johnson in a press conference called on the international community to help the Ukrainian people in every possible way. He said that they would be successful only if they all move forward with the same spirit of unity that they have shown in recent days.

In this context, he said that he will talk to the leaders of the US, France, and Germany to further coordinate their action. In a joint conference, he talks about the three Prime Ministers’ presence in London.

He said that the UK, Canada, and the Netherlands are in London to mobilize more practical and sustained support for Ukraine. He announced that their  ‘International Ukraine Support Group’ will coordinate the efforts of the international community to provide long-term, and unwavering assistance, now and in the future.

He made a statement that they will be encouraging more countries to join them. Furthermore, He urged Ukraine’s friend countries to make a coalition of humanitarian, economic, and defensive military support for Ukraine. Through this, they will ensure that Putin has failed in Ukraine.

The UK announces aid

UK Prime Boris Johnson announce an additional £175m aid for Ukraine – $100m of which will be provided directly to the Ukrainian Government. This brings the total UK support announced during this crisis to around £400m.

Boris Johnson made a statement in a press conference that After 12 days of the invasion, this is crystal clear that Putin has made a miscalculation. He said that Russia has underestimated the resistance of Ukrainians and their leader, and also the unity of the West.

Moreover, he affirmed that the Western countries will continue to strengthen their unity to ensure that the Russian invasion fails in this catastrophic invasion of Ukraine.
