Islamabad (TDI): The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the tariff review for eight additional Independent Power Producers (IPPs), PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
The decision was made during the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the recommendation of the Ministry of Energy and the Power Division.

The tariff review was approved for JDW, Chiniot Power, Hamza Sugar, Almoiz Power Plant, Thal Industries, and Chanar Energy.
Officials briefed the cabinet that this decision is expected to save the national treasury an estimated Rs200 billion.

After the approval, the Central Power Purchasing Agency would now contact the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) regarding a reduction in the power tariffs produced by these power plants.
As a result of these agreements, electricity prices for the general public would decrease and the national exchequer would benefit by Rs238 billion.
