Abuja, 18 September 2021(TDI): British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing attended the forum on women’s participation in political leadership in Nigeria. Catriona Laing said that the UK supports Nigeria’s government and people in their efforts to strengthen the role of women in politics. Paving the way for women to participate in political leadership is a shared goal that we can all agree is long overdue in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
British High Commissioner further stated that as Nigeria continues on its democratic journey, it is essential that it taps into the dynamic potential of its female population. Women account for half of Nigeria’s population. Women’s political participation has profoundly positive and democratic effects on a country’s development.
The forum’s discussions focused on challenges, opportunities, and solutions, as well as the role that stakeholders can play in getting more women elected in Nigeria in 2023 and beyond.
