Washington DC, 9 May 2023 (TDI): In honor of the coronation of King Charles III, the British Embassy in Washington participated in The Big Help Out 23 initiative aimed at encouraging volunteerism in local communities.
Embassy staff joined forces with Rock Creek Conservancy, Capital Area Food Bank, and Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Clagett Farm to give back to the community and promote sustainability.
The staff of the British Embassy in Washington came together to support local organizations and volunteer their time and resources for the benefit of the community.

Volunteering at Rock Creek Park
At Rock Creek Park, embassy staff members worked with the Rock Creek Conservancy to clear invasive species from the park’s trails, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the park’s natural beauty without disruption.
Volunteering at Capital Area Food Bank
At Capital Area Food Bank, staff members packed food boxes for distribution to Washington, D.C. and the greater DMV area. By volunteering at the food bank, embassy staff members helped ensure that everyone had access to good, healthy food.
Volunteering at Clagett Farm
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Clagett Farm is dedicated to promoting regenerative agriculture and growing food for the local community and food banks. Embassy staff members were glad to lend a hand at the farm, which uses sustainable farming methods to grow produce for its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) customers.
To mention, British Ambassador to the United States (US), Karen Pierce, was also present at Clagett Farm and even potted a tree. The ambassador praised the efforts of the British Embassy staff and the local organizations for their commitment to sustainability and community service.
In a statement, Ambassador Pierce said, “I am proud to see the British Embassy staff volunteering their time and resources to support local organizations that are making a difference in our community. By working together, we can promote sustainability and help those in need.”
