BRI Countries Delegation visited TECON Biotechnology in Xinjiang

Xinjiang (TDI): Delegates from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and members ofthe  Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries recently visited TECON Biotechnology Co., Ltd., one of China’s leading agricultural and animal husbandry enterprises, to explore collaboration opportunities in veterinary science and social development.

The participants have witnessed firsthand the company’s cutting-edge operations and explored avenues for collaborative innovation in agricultural and veterinary sciences.

The delegation’s visit to TECON Biotechnology was part of the broader “Veterinary Drug and Vaccine Technology in BRI Countries 2024” symposium, organized by China Agricultural University and the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association, with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China.

With over 30 years of consistent growth and innovation, TECON integrates diverse operations spanning feed production, animal vaccines, livestock farming, food processing, and agricultural trade.

Its operations embody a commitment to research-driven advancements and sustainable practices, making it a key player in China’s agricultural sector.

The delegation was given an in-depth tour of TECON’s modern facilities in Urumqi, including its state-of-the-art vaccine production plant, which produces over 40 vaccines annually, addressing critical zoonotic diseases for cattle, sheep, poultry, and humans.

TECON’s research and development efforts, supported by an annual budget exceeding 150 million yuan, were also highlighted. Delegates were introduced to the company’s innovations in diagnostic reagents and genetic engineering technologies, which have positioned TECON at the forefront of China’s veterinary sector.

TECON produces and sells approximately 3 million tons of feed annually, tailored to meet the nutritional needs of diverse livestock species.

Its feed products are formulated with cutting-edge research, ensuring optimal animal growth and health. TECON’s production facilities leverage modern manufacturing techniques to produce high-quality feed, enabling the company to rank among the top 30 in China’s feed industry.

These facilities also emphasize sustainability by minimizing waste and optimizing resource use, ensuring that TECON contributes to environmentally conscious agricultural practices.

The delegation engaged in discussions with TECON leadership, exploring possibilities for collaboration under the BRI framework. TECON representatives emphasized their commitment to fostering international partnerships and leveraging their expertise to support sustainable agricultural practices across BRI countries.

“We see immense potential in working together with BRI countries to address shared challenges in livestock management and animal health,” said a TECON representative.

“Through technology transfer and localized approaches, we aim to build resilient agricultural systems that benefit all stakeholders.”

Delegates from Pakistan and Bangladesh expressed keen interest in TECON’s strategies for combating zoonotic diseases and improving vaccine accessibility, noting the relevance of these solutions in addressing regional food security and health challenges.

During the visit, delegates were given a comprehensive overview of TECON’s operations, including its feed production systems and livestock management practices.

TECON processes 3 million tons of feed annually, slaughters 10 million broiler chickens, and raises 2 million laying hens.

TECON has operations in five major cities across China.

Urumqi, Xinjiang TECON’s flagship vaccine production plant in Urumqi is a hub for research and development. This facility produces vaccines for foot-and-mouth disease, brucellosis, and small ruminant diseases. With advanced manufacturing processes and adherence to GMP standards, the Urumqi plant is instrumental in combating zoonotic diseases and ensuring livestock health.

Meihekou, Jilin TECON’s Jilin facility focuses on avian influenza vaccines, addressing a critical need in poultry health management. The state-of-the-art plant integrates genetic engineering techniques, ensuring the production of effective and safe vaccines. This facility plays a vital role in supporting the domestic and international poultry industry.

Suzhou, Jiangsu The Suzhou plant is a pioneer in genetic engineering and subunit vaccine production. It specializes in creating innovative solutions for emerging livestock diseases, leveraging cutting-edge biotechnological advancements. This facility also serves as a research hub for TECON, driving continuous improvement in vaccine efficacy.

Beijing, Daxing The diagnostic reagent production facility in Daxing is central to TECON’s efforts in disease detection and control. It manufactures reagents for diagnosing zoonotic diseases, enabling early intervention and effective disease management. The facility’s proximity to Beijing provides strategic advantages for collaboration with regulatory agencies and academic institutions.

Inner Mongolia TECON’s operations in Inner Mongolia focus on livestock farming and agricultural product processing. These facilities are integral to the company’s value chain, ensuring the production of high-quality meat and by-products. The region’s rich agricultural resources support TECON’s mission of sustainable farming and trade practices.

The company’s integrated approach to agriculture and animal husbandry left a lasting impression on the visitors.

“I was particularly impressed by TECON’s holistic approach to integrating research, production, and trade,” said Muhammad Asif Noor from Pakistan.  “Their model offers valuable insights into how we can develop similar systems in our own countries.”

This visit marked a significant step in fostering cross-border collaboration within the veterinary and agricultural sectors.

Delegates acknowledged TECON’s role as a leader in the industry and expressed optimism about future partnerships that could leverage TECON’s expertise to address shared challenges under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The delegation’s visit to TECON Biotechnology highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in promoting sustainable agriculture and advancing veterinary sciences. Participants left the facility with a deeper understanding of TECON’s innovative practices and a renewed commitment to fostering partnerships that drive meaningful change in the sector.
