Sao Paulo, 22 May 2022 (TDI): Elon Musk visited Brazil and met with the Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, and other senior officials to discuss joint projects.

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, discussed projects for the connectivity and protection of the Amazon Rainforest.

During his meetings with Brazilian officials, he discussed innovation, green economy, connectivity, and “the use of technology in the protection of the Amazon and development of Brazilian economic potential.”

Moreover, Brazilian officials expressed the expectation to partner with Starlink. They expected to connect 19,000 schools in rural areas to the network and enhance the Amazon environmental surveillance satellite network.

Furthermore, Elon Musk held a meeting with business leaders and students to discuss the commercial environment and business potential in Brazil. These leaders included the chief executive of Telecom Italia and Banco BTG Pactual Chairman Andre Esteves.

Starlink is a satellite constellation owned and operated by SpaceX that provides internet access to 32 countries. Meanwhile, the project aims to grow by partnering with the government and private sector to provide internet coverage to everyone globally.

In addition, President Bolsonaro expressed support for Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter. Bolsonario said to Elon Musk, “We received your announcement about the purchase of Twitter as a breath of hope.”

Twitter has a contentious relationship with the Brazilian President. He has been accused of spreading fake news and false rhetoric. Additionally, he has criticized tech firms for their efforts against misinformation, calling them an attack on free speech.
