Botswana Global Adaption Week
The Botswana Global Adaptation Week is one of the major adaptation events of the year. It aims to showcase and promote actions and practices to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Additionally, it offers a platform to raise adaptation ambition by accelerating the formulation and implementation of countries’ National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). It also bolsters foresight thinking of countries for resilience when it comes to climate change.
Key components
The Botswana Global Adaption Week has four main components. These are firstly the NAP Expo 2022 which is organized by the UNFCCC Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) and secondly the 42nd meeting of the LEG.
Thirdly, the UN4NAPs initiative will also take place during the week and finally the Resilience Frontiers initiative, both of which are interagency efforts coordinated by the UNFCCC secretariat.
The NAP Expo
The NAP Expo is an extremely important component of the week. It will run over the course of five days and will tackle 11 issues. Moreover, it will cover the angle of transforming issues into actions and practices to adapt to the changing climate.
42nd meeting of the LEG
This week will also see the 42nd meeting of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG). The group will discuss the implementation of its work programme which will promote its vision of supporting the LDCs on adaptation.
Moreover, it will also set a new deadline for all 46 LDCs to have formulated their NAP by the end of 2022 and early 2023.
UN4NAPs
The UN4NAPs Forum on the other hand will consist of representatives from the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). They will share and discuss their technical assistance needs related to formulating and implementing NAPs.
Resilience Frontiers initiative
Finally, the week will also consist of the Resilience Frontiers initiative. This will bring together leaders and organizations.
Moreover, they will unpack Resilience Frontiers pathways towards a better world. Finally, they will also discuss the visions and values underpinning them.
