Blinken Announces $64 Million Humanitarian Aid For Afghanistan

Washington, 14 September 2021 (TDI): United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the donation of 64 Million Dollars for Afghanistan after the UN Flash Appeal meeting that took place yesterday. The objective of the meeting was to get at least 600 Million Dollars for the purpose of providing humanitarian aid to the people at risk in Afghanistan.

The World Food Program stated that 14 million people were on the brink of starvation in Afghanistan. Even before the return of the Taliban to power, the conflicts, poverty, and droughts in the country had added to the Covid pandemic consequences like economic stagnation and negative economic growth.

Blinken remarked that the United States continues to be committed through diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian assistance to support a stable future for the population of Afghanistan. The Flash Appeal represented the concerns and efforts of the international community to prevent the situation in Afghanistan from further declining and turning into a severe humanitarian crisis.
