Biden hosts the QUAD Leaders’ Summit

Washington D.C, 25 September 2021 (TDI): On Friday, US President Joe Biden hosted the Prime Ministers of Japan, India, and Australia for the first-ever ‘in-person’ QUAD Leaders’ Summit at the White House. The officials emphasized working collectively to manage the fundamental challenges of the 21st century.

US President Biden convened with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison during the summit. The meeting focused on the common vision for the future, such as the initiatives required to enhance their cooperation on 21st-century challenges. The challenges include tackling the Covid-19 pandemic by increasing production and access to effective vaccines; promoting resolute infrastructure; combating climate change, cyber threats, and providing the youth of the respective states with exchange programs under the Quad Fellowship.

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) is a strategic dialogue between the United States of America, Japan, India, and Australia and is sustained through negotiations between the member states. During the in-person QUAD Summit hosted by President Biden on Friday, leaders of the respective states also proclaimed a shared commitment to safeguarding democracy in the Indo-Pacific, besides signaling their common concerns regarding China’s imminent rise.
