Belt and Road Media Forum To Promote Growth Narrative in Next Phase

-

Chengdu, 29 August 2024 (TDI): Media organisations in states and regions working with the Belt and Road Initiative would work jointly to take forward the real sense of the Silk Road, strengthen Silk Road friendship, and meeting the responsibility of partaking in the BRI’s high-quality development, argued media representatives.

Li Shulei, who is a senior member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chief of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, gave a keynote address at the main conference.

Representatives from over 200 media entities from 80 nations and regions working in the BRI exchanged views under the theme “Enhance Media Cooperation for Common Development” at the 2024 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road, which began on Wednesday and concluded on Thursday in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.

Jointly hosted by China’s prized media outlet People’s Daily and the Government of Sichuan Province, the two-day conference focuses on the responsibilities of media in fostering agreement and gathering shared powers to endorse high-standard Belt and Road collaboration.

The “Belt and Road Media Cooperation: Chengdu Initiative” was agreed upon at the forum, underlining the media community’s pledge to nurturing mutually favorable engagement. An initiative concerning BRI media cooperation was issued at the forum.

Focused at strengthening media cooperation and promoting shared development, the conference brought together globally connected delegates from media organizations, as well as officials, scholars and business people.

Participants at the sessions held stated the view that media organizations should better explain news stories of win-win cooperation in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with partner nations and highlight reports about the workings and contributions in mutually constructing very intellectual foundations of the BRI.

Noting that the BRI has undergone blooming growth since it was planned in 2013, the guests called on media entities to highlight information connectivity, step up attempts to be enabled by digital and smart future technologies, and strengthen cooperation to highlight the attractions of various civilizations.

These attempts have increased global connectivity, generated platforms for overseas business cooperation, and stirred world economic development.”

Understanding that the BRI is evolving into a new chapter, the Chengdu Initiative stresses the sustained significance of media collaboration in promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

It was discussed to harness the shared power of the media to effectively tell BRI stories about common development and mutual benefit, about deepening regional cooperation and improving global governance, and about facilitating mutual learning among civilisations and increasing people-to-people exchanges.

Since the BRI was commissioned more than a decade ago, infrastructure connectivity has progressed, the synergy of rules has made progress, and the mutual ties among masses in the nations involved have been reinforced.

The Chengdu Initiative notes that BRI is now arriving at a new stage of development, and therefore it is necessary to sustain employing media cooperation for cultural exchange and mutual learning.
