Minsk, 13 August 2022 (TDI): The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Belarus on Friday.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the main areas of cooperation between the states. They discussed issues of intensifying political, trade, and economic interactions.
Belarus-Syria Diplomatic Relations
The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Syrian Arab Republic were established on 26 August 1993.
The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Syria has been functioning since November 1998, and the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belarus – since July 2007.
A high level of trust and positive dynamics of interstate contact characterize the political dialogue between the states.
High correspondence of approaches of both sides to the majority of international challenges brings the states together on international agendas.
Minsk and Damascus created a solid reciprocal legal basis of relations in various fields. For this purpose, they have signed a large number of bilateral interstate treaties, and intergovernmental agreements.
This year in June the Minsk Government sent 6 units of MAZ trucks and construction equipment to the Government of Syria.
The delivered Belarusian-made trucks will be used to restore industrial and civil infrastructure in the most affected areas of Syria.
Previous Official Visits
The visits by Government officials from both sides have played a major role in deepening cooperation between the states.
In August 2017, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor of Syria R. al-Qaderi visited Minsk. In April 2018, Syrian Minister of Presidential Affairs M. Azzam also visited Minsk. During the visit, he met with the President of the Republic of Belarus.
On November 3, 2020, the Ambassador of Syria to Belarus, Mohammad al-Umrani presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko.
A Joint Belarusian-Syrian Commission on trade, economics, and cooperation also took place in January 2022 in Minsk.
