Moscow (TDI): Syria’s ousted President Bashar al-Assad is in Moscow with his family after Russia granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds, Russia’s state media reported citing a Kremlin source on Sunday.
The state-run news agency further reported that a deal had been struck to ensure the safety of Russian military bases in Syria.
The confirmation comes hours after Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that Assad had left Syria after rebel fighters raced into Damascus unopposed on Sunday, ending his family’s 53-year iron-fisted rule.

In the wake of unprecedented developments, the Syrian prime minister said he was willing to transfer power to opposition forces.
Al-Bahra assured citizens that government institutions would resume operations within two days and that the transfer of power would occur in coordination with the United Nations.
