Washington D.C, 8 October 2022 (TDI): Shahriar Alam, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh met with Wendy R Sherman, Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs USA, to discuss various domestic and global issues.
They held a summit at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. on 7th October 2022. The stakeholders negotiated several bilateral and global issues of mutual interest. They seek to enhance partnerships between the two states on a larger scale.
The negotiators discussed matters relevant to human rights and stressed the significance of free and fair elections. The Russian attempt to take the hold of Ukrainian land was also part of the conversation.
Key Negotiated Themes
Wendy Sherman expressed condolences on the assassination of three Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers. They were killed on 4th October in the Central African Republic, while performing their duty.
The Deputy Secretary underlined the commitment of the United States to the people of Ukraine, to counter the aggression of Russia. She called the Russian act of seizing the land of Ukraine, “an illegal attempt”.
Both representatives highlighted the long-term diplomatic relations between the United States of America and Bangladesh. This partnership prevailed over the period of fifty years. Both states celebrated the 50th anniversary of the partnership in the current year. The parties discussed the further avenue for extending these mutually beneficial ties.

The Deputy Secretary reiterated the significance of protection and the promotion of human rights. She also stressed the importance of holding free, fair, and peaceful elections.

Shahriar Alam paid his gratitude to H.E. Wendy Sherman for the reception. The Minister stated that both stakeholders discussed various dimensions of bilateral cooperation. He urged the Deputy Secretary for lifting sanctions on Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The representative conveyed that the assassins of Banganabdhu and Rashed Chowdhury can only be brought back to the country by doing so.
