Dhaka (TDI): Bangladesh’s interim government has recalled five diplomats from five countries, including the envoy to India, in a major diplomatic reshuffle.
According to a foreign ministry official, the ministry has ordered the envoys from Brussels, Canberra, Lisbon, New Delhi, and the permanent mission to the United Nations in New York to return to Dhaka immediately.
They have been instructed to hand over their responsibilities without further delay.
The reshuffle follows the recent resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after weeks of violent protests.
The protest resulted in the establishment of an interim government led by Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus.

The protests resulted in over 700 fatalities, marking a turbulent period in the country’s political landscape.
This recall comes on the heels of Saida Muna Tasneem, the high commissioner to the UK, being similarly ordered back to the capital.
In light of these changes, tensions have arisen, particularly in relations with India, with whom Bangladesh shares a 4,000-kilometer border and maritime boundaries in the Bay of Bengal.

Reports of violence against Hindu minorities have emerged in the wake of the political upheaval, although the government insists that such incidents are politically motivated rather than driven by religious factors.
As the new administration seeks to stabilize the country, it faces both domestic and international challenges in the aftermath of the recent unrest.
