Bangladesh, 5 August 2024 (TDI): As per media reports, Bangladesh Prime Minister Shaikh Haseena Wajid has resigned.
Reports further suggest, she left the country and moved to India, due to the high unrest in the country.
Army Chief Chief announced that an interim government would be formed.
There had been wide spread protests and calls for undue and prolonged Indian influence and interference in the country, which had been one of the leading causes of protest in Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled from her palace on Monday, midday, a source told media, as people amassed demanding her ouster from the regime, roamed the streets of Dhaka and the army chief is likely to address the nation.
Since late July, Dhaka the capital city of Bangladesh, and other cities have been engulfed by demonstrators with violent protests, which have so far claimed the lives of at least 300 people, according to international media reports and the tally based on police, government officials and staff at hospitals.

Demonstrating student groups were asking for the scrapping of a contentious quota system in government jobs, which intensified into a campaign to ask for the ouster of Hasina, who won a fourth straight term in January in an election abstained by the opposition.
Earlier today, students in Bangladesh staged a protest march towards Dhaka, breaking a nationwide curfew, a day after deadly clashes across the country killed at least 91 people.
