Bangladesh Beat Pakistan by 10 Wickets in Rawalpindi Test

Rawalpindi, 25 August 2024 (TDI): In a historic first, Bangladesh have defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets to register their first-ever Test victory on Pakistan soil.

Batting first, Pakistan declared their first innings for 448/6. The highlight of the innings was Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 171 and Saud Shakil’s 141.

In response, Bangladesh piled up 565 runs on the board thanks to Mushfiqur Rahim’s 191, and fifties from Shadman Islam (93), Mominul Haque (50), Liton Das (56), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77).

Trailing by 117 runs, the Pakistan batting line crumbled against Bangladesh’s spinners, losing 7 wickets to spinners against 65 runs. The hosts were bowled out for just 146 in their second innings with a lead of only 29 runs.

Skipper Shan Masood failed in both innings with individual scores of 6 and 14. Former skipper and star batter Babar Azam also continued his dismal show in red-ball cricket with a 2-ball duck in the first innings, and 22 in the second.

Bangladesh openers chased down the 30-run target in just 6.3 overs.

Mushfiqur was given the Player of the Match award for his brilliant innings of 191.

With this historic win, Bangladesh go one up in the two-match Test series.

This is Bangladesh’s first win against Pakistan in 14 attempts. Pakistan have won 12 Tests and drawn one in 2015.

The second and final Test match will begin on August 29 at the same venue.
