ISLAMABAD (TDI): Bangladesh’s Army Chief, General Waker-uz-Zaman, has expressed strong support for the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Hasina resigned in early August amid widespread student-led protests and has since fled to India after 15 years in power.

These reforms aim to eliminate political influence from the military and ensure a pathway to free and fair elections.

Yunus, recognized for his role in the microcredit movement, has outlined plans to reform the judiciary, police, and financial institutions as part of this process.

Zaman stated that he envisions a transition to democracy within 12 to 18 months, stressing the need for patience to achieve these goals.
