Bahrain and the Russian Federation: reliable partners
After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Bahrain recognized the Russian Federation as the successor state of the Soviet Union on 28 December 1991. In May 2007, the two countries announced that they will jointly set up a new financial institution known as the “Arab-Russian Bank”. The bank will have its main headquarters in Bahrain to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries.
They also aim to work on developing military ties with each other. Bahrain is interested in Russia’s Mi-8/17 and Mi-26 helicopters as well as in the opening of the regional helicopter service center.
Russian foreign minister agreed to develop exchanges of delegations, encourage direct contact between businesses, and discuss several possible projects for joint implementation. Russian foreign minister also stated that Russian cooperation with Bahrain is of vital interest. Russia is turning the East in search of new markets and allies. The relations with the West and Bahrain’s unique position are helping Russia achieve that goal.
