Babar, Shaheen, Rizwan Improve ICC Test Rankings

Lahore, 11 September 2024 (TDI): Pakistan cricket stars Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammed Rizwan have registered gains in the latest ICC Test rankings.

Babar Azam climbed up one place to 11th in the latest rankings for batters in the latest updates. He has 712 rating points and needs eight more points to make his way back to the top 10.

The right-handed batter, who leads the ODI rankings for batters, had dropped out of the top 10 to the 12th spot in last week’s ranking updates. This happened after the former Test captain’s continued poor run in the red-ball cricket. Babar has not scored a single half-century in the last 16 innings.

England’s Joe Root still leads the batters’ rankings despite a slump in rating points. Root’s scores of 13 and 12 in two innings of Oval Test, saw his rating fall from 922 rating points to 899. This allowed New Zealand duo Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell and Australia’s Steve Smith to draw closer.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper batter Mohammed Rizwan has further improved his rankings, moving from 10 to 9th place with 720 rating points.

In the bowlers’ rankings, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has made his way back to the top 10 despite his lacklustre performances in this format. He is now placed 10th with 709 rating points.

Sri Lankan bowlers Lahiru Kumara and Milan Rathnayake improved their rankings after their memorable win at The Oval.

However, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin is still the No.1 Test bowler with 870 rating points. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and Jasprit Bumrah share the second spot with 847 rating points each.
